I have a question about colorectal surgery

What is colorectal surgery?

Colorectal surgery deals with conditions which affect your rectum, anus and colon. This can include injuries, obstructions or a blockage which is causing pain or stopping you from going to the toilet.

Why would I have private colorectal surgery?

If you have any of the conditions listed above, and other treatments haven’t worked, colorectal surgery is the next step towards improving or relieving your symptoms.

How do I arrange treatment for a colorectal issue?

If your quality of life is affected by abdominal pain, changes to your bowel habits or bleeding, you can book an appointment with one of our Consultants by completing our online booking form or by calling our Private Patient Team on 01580 363158.

What happens after colorectal surgery?

If you’re in pain after your surgery, your Consultant will prescribe painkillers, which you should only take until you feel well enough to carry on with your normal activities. Your Consultant or our nursing team will advise you how long to keep any dressings on, how often you should change them and what to do if you encounter any issues. If you’re unable to change the dressings yourself, your GP will be able to arrange for a nurse to change these for you.

Your Consultant and nursing team will be able to advise you regarding any time off work you may need and will advise you to avoid lifting anything heavy, in addition to advice on resuming your normal daily activities/exercise
