Staff at Benenden Hospital wear special badges which tell patients who they are and what they do.
In 2015, the Hospital signed up to a national scheme called Hello My Name Is, an initiative aimed at improving compassion in care and the patient experience.
The campaign reminds frontline staff and nurses in particular that they should always introduce themselves to patients before delivering care. The badges are an extra reminder and are also helpful for patients.
The badges say Hello My Name Is and then the member of staff's first name and job title.
The Hello My Name Is campaign was started by a terminally ill doctor, Kate Granger, who became frustrated by the number of staff who failed to introduce themselves to her when she was an in-patient at a hospital. On leaving hospital and with her husband's support, she started the campaign asking hospital staff to make a pledge to introduce themselves to patients in future. Dr Granger, who works at the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust was diagnosed at the age of 29 after falling ill while on holiday in California.
Jo Lydon, Patient Experience and Governance Lead at Benenden Hospital, said: "Our staff are very good and very mindful of introducing themselves to patients, but the badges are just a little reminder of our commitment to this campaign."
The Hello My Name Is campaign has been endorsed by more than 400,000 doctors, nurses, therapists, receptionists and porters across over 90 organisations. It is supported by the Prime Minister, celebrities and leaders in health organisations.
