Waitrose in Tenterden has presented friends of Benenden Hospital with a cheque for £487.
At the end of their shopping in Waitrose branches customers are given a token to place in a box of the good cause they would most like to support. The more tokens a cause gets the bigger donation they receive. Each month every Waitrose branch donates £1,000 between three local good causes.
The cheque was presented to Dorothy Flower, Secretary of the Rising Mercury Society, who are fundraisers and supporters of the Hospital. It was presented by Waitrose Department Manager Dan Taylor.
It is the second time that Waitrose customers have supported the Rising Mercury Society. Last year £485 was raised.
Mrs Flower said: “We were delighted to be told earlier this year that we had again been selected to be one of the chosen good causes that the store would support. And once again, with our share amounting to £487, almost half of the shoppers that month must have selected the Rising Mercury Society as their chosen charity. This clearly reflects the high profile and excellent reputation that the Hospital has within the local community and our thanks go to all who supported us when shopping during February.”
