A team of triathletes is celebrating after winning sponsorship from Benenden Hospital.
The Hospital has given the Weald Triathlon Club £600 which has helped buy kits for members of the club who have qualified to represent Great Britain at the World Triathlon Championships in Mexico in September.
The Weald Triathlon Club is based at Cranbrook Leisure Centre with members drawn from across the Weald area. The club provides coaching nearly every day of the week, to ages seven upwards.
Four of the local athletes who have made it into the team are Natasha Pertwee, racing in the 40-45 age group, Jane Pendered, racing in the 55-59 age group, Colin Reynolds, racing with the 55-59 year-olds and Ian Bracken, racing in the age group 75-79.
Two other members of the club are still waiting to hear if they have made it into the team.
Sport at the level they are competing is self-funded. Each athlete needs around £2,000 to pay for their kit and travel expenses.
Natasha Pertwee, also known as Natasha Gilchrist, a GP in the Hastings and Rother area, said: “We are very grateful to Benenden Hospital for this sponsorship. As a club we have a strong bond with Benenden. We have at least 10 club members who are also members of Benenden and we also have three or four families who hold family membership.
“We will proudly wear the Benenden Hospital Trust logo on our tri-suits when racing for GB in Mexico.”
