Benenden Hospital has once again given a collection of second hand spectacles to the Tenterden Lions Club – to help needy people overseas.
John Burbidge, from Tenterden Lions, collected a bin full of glasses from the Eye Unit at the Hospital in December. The glasses were donated by the Hospital’s cataract surgery patients who often find they no longer need their glasses following treatment.
The glasses are to be taken to a central Lions collection point and will be used in the Lions Recycle for Sight program. Volunteers clean and sort the glasses by the prescription strength and then package them. They are given to people in need in low and middle income communities.
The Hospital has been supporting the Lions scheme for the past two years.
