Four members of staff from Benenden Hospital are to take part in a 600 mile sponsored cycle ride.
The riders are the Hospital’s Medical Director John Giles, Project Manager Colin Barton, Information Manager Lee Chittenden and Technical Engineer Derek Rose.
The four will be part of a team of 22 riders cycling from Scotland to York to Benenden over seven days. The Hospital team will do the York to Benenden leg of 300 miles. The other riders are from Benenden and insurance companies Keegan & Pennykid and RSA.
The ride is to raise money for the Benenden Charitable Trust and SAMH, Scottish Association for Mental Health.
The event seeks to increase awareness of mental health and to raise £50,000 which will be split equally between the two charities.
The ride route is Glasgow, Longtown (Carlisle), Durham, York, Lincoln, Peterborough, Cheshunt and Benenden.
The Hospital riders now have their training in full swing. John has a couple of 18 mile rides under his belt, Lee has previously done a London to Brighton cycle ride, Colin has completed a 200 km ride and often rides 15 miles to work and Derek is doing spinning classes three times a week and riding his bike to work, a round journey of 26 miles.
