About Mr Shahid
I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Cataract & Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Benenden Hospital and East Kent University Hospital NHS Trust. I obtained my medical degree from the University of Bristol in 2010, following which I completed my foundation training in South Thames Foundation School.
I have a Masters in Clinical Ophthalmology from University College London. I completed my Ophthalmology training in the popular North London Deanery culminating in an 18-month fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital where I was trained by experts within the field of surgical retina.
My specialist surgical expertise includes but is not limited to: routine and complex cataract surgery, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, secondary intraocular lens implantation, vitreous haemorrhage & vitreous floaters.
In addition to my vast vitreoretinal experience, I have extensive emergency Ophthalmology experience having worked as a locum consultant in the Accident & Emergency department of Moorfields Eye Hospital from 2019-2020.
I have several publications in peer reviewed journals including Retina, British Medical Journal, Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery, as well as having presented in a number of international conferences in the U.K and Europe.
In my free time, I like to play tennis and cricket as well spend time with my family.
