About Mr Akhtar
I have acquired more than 20 years of experience in General surgery with extensive operative experience in emergency and elective surgical conditions. I also gained more than 15 years of experience in advanced laparoscopic procedures for colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease.
I provide treatment for general surgical conditions including a variety of hernias, gall bladder operations, and coloproctology procedures including haemorrhoids, anal fistulas, anal fissure and rectal prolapse. I also provide management for complex diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease requiring operative interventions.
In addition to the work I do here at Benenden Hospital, I am also currently working as a Consultant Surgeon with a colorectal specialty interest at East Kent Hospitals Universities NHS Foundation Trust.
I qualified from the King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan in 1995. I gained surgical experience as a postgraduate trainee in Pakistan before moving to the Republic of Ireland where I completed my basic surgical training and acquired membership of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
I moved to the UK to acquire further surgical experience in General Surgery and Coloproctology. I passed intercollegiate FRCS with a colorectal sub-specialty interest in 2011 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I was appointed as a locum Consultant Surgeon in 2014 at Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate Kent in the South East. In 2019, I was awarded entry into a GMC specialist register.
