Mr Edward Bloch

I am a consultant eye surgeon specialising in cataract surgery and the treatment of retinal conditions, such as macular hole, epiretinal membrane and retinal detachment.

Having graduated from Oxford University and University College London Medical School with distinction in 2012, I undertook my ophthalmic training in London. This included a 3-year clinical training fellowship at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital and Institute of Ophthalmology, funded through the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences, through which I was awarded a research doctorate in 'Disorders of the Vitreoretina' in 2023.

I have undertaken advanced fellowships in both medical and surgical retina at St Thomas' Hospital, London and Bristol Eye Hospital. As a result, I am skilled in dealing with a variety of conditions - from routine epiretinal membrane or macular hole surgery to high-risk cataracts or sight-saving retinal detachment repairs, using the latest technology.

I have published over 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, across a range of subjects, from cellular genetics to advanced robotics and artificial intelligence. I regularly present at international meetings and have been awarded several prizes for my work.

I’ve practiced as an NHS consultant at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust since 2024, wherein I am actively involved in training, audit and service delivery. I’m a fellow of both the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the European Board of Ophthalmologists and I’m a member of the British & Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and the European Society of Retinal Specialists.

I pride myself on delivering high quality and tailored care to my patients, taking time to understand any concerns around surgery and clearly communicating the various management options available. By building strong partnerships with my patients, I aim to reduce anxiety and enhance confidence when it comes to making difficult decisions about eye surgery.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cycling, playing cricket and skiing.
