About Mr Andrew Smith
I graduated from Kings College London Medical School, in 1993. I also gained a BSc in Anatomy while at medical school and an MSc in Orthopaedic Engineering later in my training. My Basic Surgical Training was in the South East and Bristol, gaining additional experience in orthopaedics, plastic, vascular and neurosurgery.
I subsequently trained as an orthopaedic registrar on the South East Thames rotation based in London, Kent and Sussex. Having passed the FRCS examinations and obtaining CCT, I spent a year in Louisville, Kentucky working with Kleinert, Kutz and Co on a hand, wrist and microsurgery fellowship. I returned to the UK in 2005 and took up my Consultant post in hand and wrist surgery in East Kent, where I worked for 19 years.
Since 2024, I have worked purely in the independent sector. This has allowed me to focus more closely on developing excellence in my practice. I have a strong interest in joint replacement surgery in the hand and wrist and have a presented on these topics at the BSSH, national arthroplasty meeting and published on these topics. I also treat all common hand conditions including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger/thumb, Dupuytren’s contracture, tendonitis and thumb base arthritis.
I live in Kent and enjoy spending time with my family. In my spare time, I also enjoy keeping fit and cycling.
