About Dr Syed Hassan
I am a highly experienced Consultant Pulmonologist with dual specialist accreditation in Respiratory Medicine and Internal Medicine. I work as a substantive consultant at East Kent NHS Trust covering Kent and Canterbury Hospital and William Harvey Hospital Ashford, and privately see patients bringing over a decade of expertise in respiratory care to my patients.
I am proficient in many advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), EUS-Bronchoscopy, bronchoscopy, medical thoracoscopy, and diagnostic thoracic ultrasound. I am skilled in the insertion and removal of indwelling pleural catheters (IPC/PleurX) and chest drains, as well as performing ultrasound-guided procedures.
I received my specialist training in Respiratory Medicine across renowned institutions in London and the Southeast, including Nottingham University Hospital, Guy’s Hospital (Lung Cancer, Airway diseases and Sleep Medicine), and St Thomas’s Hospital (Critical Care, Pleural Diseases). My training included rotations at Harefield Hospital (lung transplantation), and King’s College Hospital (cystic fibrosis). I have also worked in Maidstone Hospital and Medway Maritime Hospital.
In addition to my clinical practice, I have held multiple educational roles, including being a Clinical Lecturer, Clerkship Director, and Associate Professor of Medicine. I serve as an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and hold professional qualifications in Clinical Research, Medical Education, and Clinical Leadership.
My expertise and contributions to the field have been recognised by leading institutions, earning my Fellowships from the American College of Chest Physicians, the College of Physicians & Surgeons Glasgow, and the College of Physicians of London.
I am also a member of the Academy of Medical Educators UK, the Pleural Society UK, the British Thoracic Society, and the British Medical Association.
