Radiofrequency denervation is a procedure to treat back pain that originates in your facet joints.
Injections for back pain are a popular, non-surgical procedure which can provide relief from back pain and let you get on with your life.
Diagnostic radiology uses imaging techniques, such as x-rays, CT or MRI and ultrasound to assess or diagnose injury or disease.
I qualified from University College London in 2001 and completed my specialist training at St Thomas's Hospital in clinical radiology, followed by a two year interventional radiology fellowship.
This was followed by a honorary fellowship in musculoskeletal intervention at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
I am currently the head of Interventional Radiology at East Sussex NHS Trust as well as the Deputy Chief of Division of Diagnostics, Anaesthetics and Surgery.
I am also the principal investigator for the Trust on a research trial (RECOR) using renal denervation to treat persistent hypertension.
Away from work I enjoy cross-fit and spending as much time with my young family as I can.
Hi, I'm Dr Mo Farris. I'm a Consultant Interventional Radiologist which essentially means I do image-guided procedures, surgery, small operations. This ranges from vascular surgery or vascular operations to back operations or back procedures. I have an MBBS from University College London, where I undertook my undergraduate training. I also have a BSc in Neuroscience. So I went into medical fields and did my membership exams which are called the MRCP for the Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. After which I decided that interventional radiology was for me. It's a nice mix between technology, which I thoroughly enjoy, and as technology has advanced, what we can offer has significantly advanced as well.
First and foremost, we're all humans and I interact with everybody as a joint co-creator in their pathway. So the main element with patient care is to understand that it's a joint decision, I'm not there to tell patients what they must or mustn't have. I'm there to inform them of what is in their likely best interests, give them my expert opinion. And then the decision is always the patient's decision. Benenden is sort of the best of all the old parts of health care as well as equipped with the most modern technology and the best kit and equipment going to be able to provide the best healthcare. It's large enough to be able to do everything we need to do, but small enough to be able to influence decision making, get things done for the best interests of patients, allow services to be fashioned in relatively small time frames. So we've launched over the last couple of years, a lot of innovative procedures with regards to back care.
I like my spiritual work. I like my jiu-jitsu. I like sports. I have an amazing wife and family and twins. So I have an eight-year-old boy and girl twins who are super cool. And again, they do jiu-jitsu with me. So they're just awesome. So we just love spending time with them hanging out, doing whatever they want to do, just being present in whatever we do.
