About Dr Jayshri Shah
I am a Consultant Hepatologist and Gastroenterologist at St Marks Hospital London North West University Healthcare Trust (LNWUHT) and Visiting Consultant Hepatologist at Royal Free Hospital, Department of Liver Transplantation. My practice covers a wide spectrum of gastro-intestinal conditions. I specialise in disorders of Liver, bile duct, gall bladder and pancreas. I am the Clinical Hepatology lead for London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust. I am an Assessor for Improving Quality in Liver Services (IQILS) working with the Royal college of physicians to raise awareness on standards and quality of care for liver ailments.
I am highly skilled in endoscopic procedures such as diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, sigmoidoscopy and ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreaticography). I have been accredited by Joint Advisory Group (JAG), Royal College of Physicians for all the above endoscopy skills and I’m a certified trainer for these procedures.
I’m a senior Consultant with over 20 years of clinical experience in both India and the UK. I completed my medical degree at the University of Mumbai, India in 1996, followed by my specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology. I was awarded my MD and Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in 2001 from Topiwala National Medical College, India. I also became a Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences, India in 2001. I later relocated to the UK and was awarded my Membership (MRCP) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians London (FRCP).
I received my Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in 2009 and was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at St James' University and Leeds General Infirmary Hospital. In 2010, I moved back to India and practiced as a Consultant Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist and Therapeutic Endoscopist at several hospitals in Mumbai, India. I moved back to the UK in 2018 where I was appointed as Hepatology Lead, Upper GI cancer and Clinical Governance Lead at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust until February 2023.
I have numerous publications and presentations in national and international meetings. I have supported and continues to facilitate Hepatology research as Principal Investigator in various trials. I have organised Hepatology Training meetings at Local and Regional level and have led numerous Quality Improvement Projects to improve the delivery of Liver service. I have been a Trainer for Leadership programs.
I am a certified Emotional Quotient (EQ)assessor, the skills acquired from this help to enhance the quality of patient experience during consultation.
I am passionate about Clinical Governance, hence have commenced medicolegal work as an expert witness to help with clinical negligence.
