We are currently recruituing for a Healthcare support worker to join the Theatre and ACU team on a fixed term contract base for 9 months.
Under the supervision and responsibility of the Registered Health Professional (RHP), the HSW will implement high standards of care for patients as prescribed and delegated by the RHP following hospital guidelines and protocols and always promoting a patient-focused approach. The HSW will actively support the delivery of the Hospital’s business objectives

About the role
- Undertake delegated clinical tasks within chosen working department and reporting back to the RHP on clinical interventions.
- Accurately update patient information on IT systems.
- Ensure patient care areas are effectively maintained and well stocked.
- Follow standard operating policies and procedures, however, is expected to use own initiative appropriately and make decisions within scope of role, regarding prioritising workload to deliver the role effectively.
- Work flexibly in the department, according to training, competency and skills.
Skills and experience required
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent experience
- Relevant professional qualification i.e., NVQ Level III in Health & Social Care, Care Certificate (or equivalent) or willingness to undertake.
- Basic Life Support training.
- Clinical skills (e.g., Phlebotomy, Cannulation, Catheter care, ECG recording, bladder scanning, urinalysis, assisting with procedures/examinations, conducting basic diagnostic tests/examinations, dressing changes).
- Good IT skills.
- Proven ability to undertake multiple tasks under pressure.
- Methodical in approach and pays attention to detail.
- Effective verbal communication using tact and diplomacy.
- Strong patient-centred approach.
- Supports a culture of professionalism and positive working in a team environment.
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity and ethics in the workplace.
- Demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude and flexibility to meet the requirements of the service.
