Nutritional therapy

Nutritional therapy is a recognised and evidence-based complementary medicine that offers a personalised approach to nutrition, supporting you to adapt what you eat and drink in order to help you achieve your health and wellbeing goals.

I have a question about nutritional therapy or dietetics

What is nutritional therapy?

The link between poor diet and ill health is widely recognised. Getting the nutrients we need to feel better physically and mentally is a key step towards good health and wellbeing.

Using the latest nutrition science, nutritional therapy is relevant for individuals with long-term (chronic) conditions, as well as those looking to enhance their general health and wellbeing. The personalised approach seeks to address the underlying causes of ill health, rather than just addressing the symptoms.

What is a Nutritional Therapist?

BANT-registered Nutritional Therapists are uniquely trained to understand how nutrients and lifestyle factors influence the function of the body. They believe that the nutritional and biochemical make-up of each person is unique and so dietary needs vary from person to person.

They offer personalised nutrition and lifestyle programmes to boost the body’s healing capabilities and improve health and performance.

However, it’s important to understand that nutritional therapy would never be recommended as a replacement for medical advice and a practitioner will always refer a patient with ‘red flag’ symptoms to their GP.

Why would I need a nutritional therapy consultation?

You might be considering a nutritional therapy consultation if:

  • You’re interested in discovering how diet can improve yours and your loved ones' health
  • You’ve been struggling with weight loss and feel that now is the right time to put in place a healthy and sustained weight loss plan
  • You’ve felt confused about conflicting advice on what constitutes a healthy diet
  • You suffer from digestive issues
  • You feel tired and fed up of not having 'get up and go'
  • You feel like you’re on a hormonal rollercoaster and need to find more balance in your life

You might be surprised to learn how nutrition and lifestyle factors could have contributed to your current health issues and how they can be used to positively impact your health and wellbeing.

If you’re ready to make changes to your diet and lifestyle to benefit your health, then personalised nutrition is right for you.

What happens during a nutritional therapy consultation?

During the initial consultation, which lasts one hour, we’ll talk about your health history and discuss your health concerns and goals. Your Nutritional Therapist will explain the potential causes behind your symptoms and answer any questions you have.

You’ll agree a personalised nutritional programme during the consultation, which typically includes dietary and lifestyle advice, as well as carefully selected nutritional supplements, where relevant. Further testing may also be recommended.

Your nutrition programme will be emailed to you within 24 hours of the consultation.

What happens after my nutritional therapy consultation?

Follow-up appointments last 30 minutes and are an opportunity to assess the effects of the nutrition programme. Further recommendations will be made to move the programme forward and/or to transition to a maintenance plan.

How much does a nutritional therapy consultation cost?

The cost of an initial consultation is £110 and a follow-up costs £75.  To make an appointment please complete our online booking form or call our Private Patient Team on 01580 363158.
